Reflexology

”I felt my nasal passages clearing as she finger walked over the tops of my toes!        Very relaxing and satisfying.”

Reflexology is a lovely treatment that concentrates mainly on the feet although it can also be enjoyed on the hands.

It’s slightly different to a massage in that the aim of treatment is to stimulate nerve endings (reflex points) corresponding to all systems of the body (skeletal, muscular, neurological, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, genitourinary and vascular), with the intention of creating balance and well being.

I use my thumbs and fingers to apply pressure deeply yet sensitively over the soles of the feet and/or palms of the hands in order to stimulate these reflex points and release tension. Having pressure applied to the feet and hands in this way is actually very relaxing and pleasurable and helps to alleviate the effects of stress on the body.

Reflexology maps show our soles/palms as being mirrors of the body so for example when the feet are put together, the big toes represent the head, the outer little toe mounds the shoulders, the inner side of foot the spine and the middle of the foot the digestive organs. Also the right foot corresponds to the right side of body whilst the left foot corresponds to the left side.

This treatment is enjoyed lying down or propped up slightly with pillows.  I use a natural talc instead of oil to work thoroughly and precisely and this is followed at the end by a leg, feet/arm, hand massage with your chosen oils.  Heated stones may also be used to enhance the relaxation/therapeutic benefits and soften the fascia (connective tissue) of the feet.
