”Excellent- very noticeable change from initial physical tension to feeling of looseness. Deep and penetrative but still relaxing, I feel privileged to have had such a wonderful treatment.”
Deep tissue massage uses the same ‘strokes’ as a Swedish massage except as the name suggests they work deeper into the layers of muscle.
The main aim of this treatment is to focus on areas of chronic muscular tension/restriction, aches/pains and stiffness that usually develop from poor posture/body mechanics, injury or overuse.
Deep tissue massage is used to break up scar tissue, realign muscle fibers and soften ‘knots’ or adhesion’s (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain and reduced range of movement.
I use wax or a small amount of oil so as to have a better grip on the muscle tissue and use my forearms, elbows, soft fists and finger pads to create more of a specific depth. The ‘strokes’ are slower and less rhythmic then those of a Swedish massage, allowing the body time to relax into the pressure being applied.
